Woman charged with child neglect in case of newborn baby

Published on Wednesday, November 28, 2018

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office have charged 31-year-old Jillene McMillan with unlawful neglect of a child.

On Nov 14, investigators received a report from the Greenville City Police Department regarding a newborn baby being handed over to a woman, identified as Monique Yolanda Jackson, who then took the child to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Greenville City Police initiated an investigation and have since charged Jackson with filing a false police report.

During the course of the Sheriff’'s Office investigation, investigators learned that McMillan gave birth to the child and placed the infant in unreasonable risk by failing to provide any medical care at the time of the at-home birth. She then handed the baby off to a stranger, not in compliance with Daniel’s Law.

McMillan was transported to the Greenville County Detention Center where she awaits a bond hearing. The infant was placed in DSS custody.
