A woman who killed a man with one gunshot in Greer on Thursday has been charged with the shooting that happened in the Bent Creek subdivision on Bent Creek Drive, police said.

Victoria Diane Tharp thought the gun she pointed at Christopher Scott Weir, 31, of Duncan, wasn't loaded, according to police.

The Greer Police Department has charged Tharp, 29, with involuntary manslaughter, pointing a firearm at a person, obstructing justice and identity fraud. Police reported Tharp failed to follow basic firearms safety rules in insuring that a firearm she was holding was unloaded and not pointed at a person before pulling the trigger.

Tharp was taken into custody Thursday on an unrelated charge of possession of Methamphetamine less than 1-gram 3rd or subsequent offense, according to the report.

After being arrested Tharp lied to investigators about her identity, which impeded the death investigation, the police reported.

Tharp is being held at the Greer Police Department awaiting a bond hearing.
