City police and fire clear path for Carolina Brotherhood Ride pay tribute to fallen brothers and sisters from the Carolinas

The City of Greer Fire and Police departments assisted the Brotherhood riders and their escorts to allow safe and efficient travel through the city.
 

The Carolina Brotherhood Ride, with firefighters and police officers cycling, passed through downtown Greer Tuesday morning to pay tribute to fallen brothers and sisters from the Carolinas.

Greer is part of the five-day, 463-mile bicycle ride. Thirty cyclists from the Carolina Brotherhood Ride are making their way to Raleigh, N.C. It began in Columbia on Monday morning. The riders faced temperatures reaching into the mid-90s with a heat index of over 100 degrees.

Train kills man about town 'Elvis' on railroad tracks behind former freight depot between Line and Trade streets

Investigators at the scene of a passing train colliding with a male in downtown Greer Thursday morning. The man, 65, was identified as David Allen Deane, know as

A 65-year-old man was hit and killed when struck by a passing train Thursday morning between East Poinsett Street and Trade Street, according to Greer Police reports.

David Allen Deane, known by the locals as "Elvis", was killed at 8:40 a.m. when a Norfolk Southern train collided with him. His body was found between the tracks behind the former freight Depot.
