Downtown Greer infrastructure and paving project budgeted around $3.5 million, CPW work begins in 2017

Downtown Greer will get new infrastructure and road paving.
 
 

Downtown Greer’s aging infrastructure, said to be more than a 100-years-old in places, will get an overhaul beginning in 2017. Downtown streets will also get new paving.

The project’s overall cost is estimated at $4 - 4.5 million. That does not include a $1.031 million, 75/25 matching grant, awarded Greer from the Greenville Legislation Delegation Transportation.

Updates on current projects and unveiled plans for future groundbreaking innovations highlighted a business meeting co-hosted by Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport and Southwest Airlines at the Spartanburg Marriot Hotel on Friday.

Dave Doty, Senior Manager of Business Development for Southwest, and Dave Edwards, GSP District President and CEO, both laid out an expanded partnership between the airline and airport as well as updating airport projects and hinting at new improvements in the works for future travelers.

Michelin North America, Inc. announced it is moving forward with its $270 million distribution center that is projected to create 350 jobs.

The center will be located in Spartanburg County near the intersection of Highways 101 and 417, within seven existing Michelin tire plants across the Upstate region and its North American headquarters in Greenville.

Lowe’s Home Improvement completed the construction late last week and one child had the playground all to himself until two more children arrived with a family Tuesday. STEP is a Daily Bread Ministries initiative.

Two proclamations and two $5,000 donations were served to Greer Relief at its 80th Anniversary breakfast Tuesday morning at Fairview Baptist Church.

Two $5,000 donations, for the second straight year, were presented on behalf of Greer Memorial Hospital and the Greer State Bank Foundation.

The City of Greer recorded more than $1.1 billion in gross retail sales in fiscal year 2016, Mike Sell, Assistant City Manager, reported to City Council Tuesday.

The total, $1,154,134, represents $711,739 in gross sales from Greenville County and $442,395 from Spartanburg County in Greer.
