Greer Middle School student removed after making threat

School Enforcement Investigators have charged a Blue Ridge Middle School student with Student Threats after uncovering a group text thread that involved the suspect making statements about bringing a gun to school.
The 13-year-old student was identified and pulled from school and subsequently charged on Wednesday..
School safety measures failing our children

As you know threats, were received by students and, as far as I know, up to 10 students have been arrested. These threats have made our children and parents believe our kids are not safe and the safety measures implemented are by far sub par.
GCSO makes an arrest of woman who was shot and killed on Monday

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office made an arrest in connection with the murder of Michez Fowler, who was shot and killed Monday afternoon.
Investigators opened an investigation after Fowler’s body was found next to a wrecked vehicle near 6 Valentine Street. Fowler was found with at least one gunshot wound that investigators have learned was a result of a domestic-related dispute.
Riverside student arrested in shooting incident

School Enforcement Investigators have made an arrest in connection with an airsoft gun incident that occurred yesterday evening after 5:00 p.m. during a Riverside Cross Country practice.
The incident occurred while members of the team were practicing at East Riverside Park and involved at least one student being struck by a "pellet" from what is being described as an airsoft gun. That student is thankfully okay.

Man arrested for multiple Ill-Treatment of Animals charges

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office have obtained warrants against 37-year-old Joevaughn Leon Meredith, who is currently incarcerated at the McDuffie County Georgia Detention Center, for multiple Ill-Treatment of Animals charges.
The arrest stems from an investigation that began on April 1 after the GCSO received information concerning the potential mistreatment of animals under Meredith's care.
Investigation underway after man is shot

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation after a man was shot.
Deputies initially responded to St. Francis Hospital at 3:17 A.M., after it was reported a male showed up with at least one gunshot wound. The victim’s status is unknown at this time and currently nobody is in custody.
The investigation is still in its preliminary stages, however deputies received information that the incident possibly occurred at 1123 Cedar Lane Rd.
Investigators request for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers of Greenville at 23-CRIME.
Homicide by child abuse

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit have charged 28-year-old Lynda Leigh Nicole Lawson with Homicide by Child Abuse after investigators found she left her 7-month-old son in a bathtub unattended for an extended period of time, causing him to drown.
Following the incident, the infant was transported to the hospital, where he remained on life-support until, sadly, he succumbed to the injury and passed away on July 24, 2024.
Officer involved shooting in Greenville, K9 stabbed

Just before 3 p.m. Monday deputies within the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Warrant’s Division were assisting the Department of Homeland Security with a warrant service on a suspect with an active warrant.
Deputies made contact with the suspect outside at Woodlawn Cemetery located at 1 Pine Knoll Drive where a K9 engaged with a suspect who stabbed the dog at least one time.
Man in custody for Walmart robberies

A man is in custody, in Laurens County, after committing a string of robberies that occurred at Walmarts in both Greenville and Laurens counties.
Around 9 a.m. a Greenville County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who was working an off-duty assignment at Walmart on White Horse Road, was alerted that a man, later identified as Lylique Zyquan Lionel Alston, presented a note to a cashier demanding money.
GPD responds to Blue Bridge Brewery dismturbance

Greer Police Department officers responded to Blue Ridge Brewing at 306 Trade Street, Greer, on Tuesday night, in reference to a disturbance involving a firearm.
Suspect Timothy McCombs, 26, had left the location in a vehicle before officers’ arrived, but was located a short distance away at which point a traffic stop was conducted, according to GPD.
Man who killed USC Union softball players is sentenced

A judge sentenced a Spartanburg man to 20 years in prison of which he must serve at least 17. He has already served 3 years, leaving, at minimum, 14 more. Following that he will serve five years of home detention and another five years of probation.
Yuriy Karpik, 27, pleaded guilty on Wednesday in Spartanburg to two counts of Felony DUI with Death, two counts of Felony DUI with Great Bodily Injury, and one count of Malicious Injury to Personal Property value over $2,000. Circuit Court Judge R. Keith Kelly issued the sentence.
Upstate man sentenced to 15 years for stalking, shooting into home

Herbert Francis Barnhill has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, 5 years for possession of weapon during the commission of a violent crime, 10 years for discharging a firearm Into a dwelling, 5 years for stalking, 1 year for contraband, and 30 days for possession of marijuana – all to run concurrently.
As part of the plea, a permanent restraining order was issued against Barnhill for the benefit of Melissa Hammond and her minor child. Circuit Court Judge J. Derham Cole issued the sentence.

Gun found in Greenville County 4th-grader's backpack

A gun was found in a 4th-grade student’s backpack in an elementary school in Greenville County Tuesday morning. Greenville County Sheriff Office Deputies observed the empty gun but also noted an unattached magazine with ammunition inside the backpack.
Deputies were called to Cherrydale Elementary just after 10 a.m., and upon further investigation, investigators learned that the student was overheard by another student talking about having a gun, according to Lt. Ryan Flood.
Brothers arrested for shooting at Brushy Creek Townhomes

The Greer Police Department arrested the younger brother of a Greer teen, and both have been charged with attempted murder, according to Capt. Patrick Fortenberry with the GPD.
Jerry Nathaniel Dodd, 18, of Greer was arrested Wednesday evening on outstanding warrants with the GPD. A day earlier Jeffrey Tykei Dodd, 19, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Man arrested for criminal sexual assault with a minor

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office have arrested, Zonia Michael Lee Jefferson, 56, in connection with a Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor investigation initiated in November, 2022.
During the investigation, investigators discovered that Zonia committed multiple unlawful sexual acts with three victims between 2018 and 2021. He committed the crimes as an existing registered sex offender.
Roebuck woman sentenced for killing husband

A Roebuck woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after she admitted to fatally shooting her husband.
Shelia Denise Lebron, 55, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime on Monday. She will serve 85 percent of Circuit Judge Keith Kelly’s prison sentence before she is eligible for release.
