Shootout was result of robbery attempt

A shootout at a Greer home at 203 Pelham Street Monday resulted in the death of a man and woman, according to Greer police and investigators.
Reportedly, Teresa Weatherspoon, 34, knocked on the door of Douglas J. Burgess, 62, asking for money. Witherspoon reportedly pulled a gun when Burgess refused.
Burgess also pulled his gun and they exchanged gunfire.
Cause of shooting deaths expected Tuesday

Greer City Police expect to release the cause of deaths of two people shot Monday morning at 203 Pelham Street.
“Right now we’re treating it as a death investigation,” said Lt. Jim Holcombe of the Greer Police Department. “We have a witness from the house and she spoke to us about what happened.”
