A Spartanburg man received a 45-year prison sentence today for shooting a sheriff’s deputy during a scuffle that occurred during a police pursuit.
Robert Odell Brown, 29, was found guilty of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon and failure to stop for a blue light and siren at the conclusion of a four-day jury trial.
An Inman man received a 25-year prison sentence today after he admitted to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.
Brian S. Stapleton, 32, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct. The victim’s mother reported the crime to the Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 8, 2011. The responding deputies found Stapleton partially clothed and pretending to sleep in a nearby wooded area. Stapleton is a distant relative of the victim’s family and he had been invited to spend the night at the victim’s home.
A Virgin Islands man received a 30-year prison sentence Monday for stabbing and shooting a local college student to death.
Sama C. Quinland, 22, of St. Croix, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the July 25, 2011 slaying of Spartanburg Community College student, DeAndre N. Fulton-Smith, 19.
A Spartanburg man received an 18-year prison sentence Thursday for shooting a man to death in the parking lot of a west-side restaurant.
Antwon M. Baker Jr., 28, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a weapon at the conclusion of a four-day jury trial. Baker will serve 80 percent of Circuit Judge Derham Cole’s prison sentence before he is eligible for release.
