Here’s five tips to ensure a safe night of trick-or-treating.
• Before your little ones head out for the big night, make sure there’s a plan in place for an adult or two to supervise the festivities. It can be challenging to identify young ones in the dark wearing similar looking costumes. Make sure there’s an established plan beforehand to meet at a familiar location in case your child or someone under your supervision somehow strays from the group during the trick-or-treat trek.

This year’s Big Thursday is Nov. 2 at Fairview Baptist Church, 1300 Locust Hill Road, Greer, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Elf Jr. The Musical, a Greer Children’s Theatre production, has scheduled six performances over two weekends in November at the J. Harley Bonds Career Center.
Performances are on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12, 17-18 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Nov. 12 and 19 at 2 p.m. The Bonds Career Center is at 505 N. Main Street.
Hollywild Animal Park will host Holiday Lights Safari this year, Nov. 17-Dec. 31.
The park has been closed all season because it failed to reach its financial goals earlier this year that resulted in, the resignation of the executive director, staff cuts including the animals’ caretaker and relegating the care of animals and park maintenance to volunteers.
The Gospel Music Association (GMA) selected LifeFM Network the 2017 Dove Award for Southern/Bluegrass Gospel Radio Impact.
The Dove Awards recognize a variety of Christian music genres for outstanding achievements and overall contribution to the music industry. The Radio Impact Award honors professionalism and influence in the broadcasting industry. The awards were presented on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in Nashville, Tenn.

The Bon Secours Wellness Arena will implement a clear bag policy for all events, including hockey, concerts and family events.
Each ticketed guest will be permitted to carry one large clear bag, either a Ziploc style bag or a 12”x6”x12” clear bag, plus a small clutch purse (4.5”x6.5”). The small clutch must be carried into the venue outside the clear bag and is subject to search.
The Shoestring Players at the University of South Carolina Upstate will perform “Let the Right One In”, Thursday-Sunday (Oct. 5 – 8) in the Performing Arts Center Theatre at USC Upstate.
