Dr. Amy Crockett, a maternal-fetal medicine physician with Greenville Health System, was named the winner of the prestigious John P. McNulty Prize for her leadership in reducing preterm births in South Carolina by expanding access to CenteringPregnancy group prenatal care. 

The award, which comes with a $100,000 prize, helps to further these efforts.

Medicaid office in Greer forced to close Wednesday

Caroline Robertson, Executive Director of Greer Relief and home to the Medicaid office, received a proclamation from Mayor Rick Danner during the non-profit's 80th Anniversary breakfast celebration.
 
 
 

The Greer Medicaid office is closing Wednesday.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is closing the service offered to citizens from Greer, Taylors, Duncan, Blue Ridge, Lyman and Wellford. The Medicaid office is at the Greer Relief and Resources at the J. Verne Smith Center at 202 Victoria Street.

Spartanburg Regional Medical Center receives Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award

Spartanburg Regional Medical Center (SMC) has received Healthgrades Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award for the third consecutive year (2015-2017), the only hospital in South Carolina to achieve that honor.

Patients have an average, 48.7 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, according to Healthgrades 2017 Report to the Nation.

SRHS, UnitedHealthcare reach two-year agreement

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and UnitedHealthcare have reached a two-year agreement that will keep all SRHS hospitals and physicians in UHC’s network for commercial and Medicare Advantage health plans.

The new contract was effective Oct. 15 ensuring members enrolled in UHC employer-sponsored plans do not experience any interruption in their in-network benefits coverage for services received at SRHS hospitals or physicians.

Upward hosts STACK sports performance training

Spartanburg Regional’s STACK Sports Performance Training has a new home in the Upward Star Center adjacent to the Spartanburg Regional Sports Medicine Institute (SMI). 

“With sports medicine physicians on the same property at the Sports Medicine Institute, we are able to tap into that orthopaedic care,” said Matt Lyden, SRHS sports medicine manager. “One example is the Return to Play Program which allows for patients to leave SMI care and go right back into performance with a more seamless transition.”

Greer Commission of Public Works and the Greer Police Department will host a drug take back day on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

“The Greer Police Department has done this effort for many years, but the first time partnering with CPW,” GPD Sgt. Chad Richardson said. “We think this is the perfect partnership because we do not want prescription drugs in the wrong hands and (CPW) does not want pills being flushed down the drain.”
