12-year-old accidently shoots sibling, 10, mother charged
A mother of three children was charged with three counts of neglect when she left her children alone and a 12-year-old accidently shot a sibling Friday afternoon in Greer.

The three children were left alone overnight and throughout the day on Chandler Road, according to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators reported the shooting was the result of the boy taking possession of a firearm in his house and accidentally discharging it, which subsequently struck a sibling, a 10 year-old child, according to a spokesperson with the GCSO.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and is expected to be released soon.

The shooting was ruled accidental, however, Leslie Fletcher Dekalb, 31, is being charged with three counts of unlawful neglect of a child. The children were found to have access to a firearm as well as marijuana that was located inside. Dekalb was not present at the time of the shooting, according to the spokesperson.

The call came in to deputies round 3:10 p.m., regarding a minor child who had suffered at least one gunshot wound.

Dekalb was transported to the Greenville County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
