Byrnes defeated Greer 42-7 Friday night at Dooley Field.
Greer is ranked No. 5 in Class 4A and Byrnes moved into the Class 5A rankings at No. 7.
The Rebels, undefeated at 2-0, built a 21-0 halftime lead and held Greer, (1-1) to only a fourth quarter touchdown. However, it was the first points scored against Byrnes in two games (93-7). The Rebels beat Myrtle Beach, 51-0 last week.
Quez Mayes rushed for 99 yards and scored two touchdowns for Byrnes. Rahjai Harris added 64 yards rushing and he and Brock Carroll also added two touchdowns each.
Greer quarterback Trey Houston threw a 10-yard scoring pass over the middle to Braxton Collins for Greer’s lone touchdown. It ended Greer’s impressive 10-play, 83-yard drive with 10:24 left in the game.
Houston and Dre Williams rushed for 48 yards each for Greer. Houston completed 22 of 29 pass attempts for 140 yards and Nate Jefferson caught seven passes for 54 yards.
Byrnes had 325 yards of offense and Greer had 241 yards.
Greer plays at Clinton next Friday and Byrnes hosts Don Bosco Prep of Ramsey, N.J., in its season-opener.
