The Miss South Carolina USA pageant will be held this week-end at the North Charleston Civic Center. 43 young women between the ages of 19 and 26 will be competing for the coveted title. The Greer area will be represented by Anna Brown, Miss Mountain Lakes USA. Anna is no stranger to pageants or Greer. She is a 2012 graduate of Greer High School were she was a cheerleader, on student government and held the title of Miss Greer High School 2009 as well as Miss Greater Greer Teen 2010 and places 3rd runner up at the 2010 Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant that year. Anna currently attends Tri County/Clemson University were you can see her on the field in Death Valley as a Tiger Dancer. Anna is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Brown.
The winner of the Miss South Carolina USA pageant will go on to compete in the Miss USA pageant held in Miami in June. The Miss USA program is owned and operated by Donald Trump and is a preliminary to the Miss Universe pageant.
Just a little pageant info: the difference between Miss USA and Miss America is that Miss USA does not do the talent portion of the pageant. When asked which system was harder to compete in, Miss Brown gave us a very interesting answer."I love both systems for different reasons. I actually enjoy the talent portion of the Miss America program but by taking away the talent portion, the contestants are on a much more even playing field. The competition is intense and you better be ready mentally and physically if you plan to compete." Both systems offer scholarship money and both are spokespersons for charitable organizations. Miss USA promotes the Susan G. Kohmen Foundation and Miss America promotes The Children's Miracle Network.
Update:
Christina Zapolski will represent South Carolina at the 2014 Miss USA Pageant. She was crowned Saturday at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center in North Charleston. Zapolski entered the pageant as Miss Isle of Palms USA. She has worked as a model Ford Models, has been active in theater, cheerleading, running, tennis and horseback riding.
