Jim Benson's 80th birthday will be celebrated Saturday at the Benson OctoberFAST. Greer Mayor Rick Danner presented a proclamation to Benson in this archived photo.
The event will celebrate the 80th birthday of Jim Benson, owner of the Benson Automotive group, the title sponsor.
Country singer and songwriter John Anderson and New River Band perform in free concerts.
Other events:
• 5K race at 8:30 a.m.
• Classic Car Show, noon to 4 p.m.
• Sno Hut shaved ice and hot dog plates will be for sale for lunch from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
• Free flu shots and blood pressure check, noon – 2 p.m., provided by Greenville Health System.
• Preregistration for the 5K race, which goes through Greer on a flat, certified course, is available at go-greenevents.com through Friday. Race day registration at 7 a.m. at Greer First Baptist.
• Classic Car Show participants must pre-register at gcminc.org. Spaces are $25-$50.
• Wish Come True three-foot birthday candle to honor Jim Benson is a $300 sponsorship, includes business or individual’s name and a birthday greeting. Two VIP tickets in front of the concert stage.
