Jake Smith scored on a 1-yard run on fourth down with 11 seconds left in the game and Tyree Cofield ran in the two-point conversion to give the Blue Ridge Tigers a come-from-behind 28-27 win over Riverside High School Thursday night at The Reservation.

Blue Ridge scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to come back from a 13-point deficit at the end of three quarters, trailing Riverside, 27-14.

Cofield scored on a 4-yard run and Neko Christ’s extra point attempt was blocked with 8:55 left, to bring the Tigers to within 27-21.

The Tigers regained possession with 3:53 remaining and used 15 plays to travel the 80 yards for the winning points.

Cofield carried the ball 35 times for 180 yards with is two touchdowns. Cofield also scored on a 7-yard run in the third quarter.

Riverside and Blue Ridge traded first quarter touchdowns and then the Warriors scored on Andrew Brown’s 2-yard run and Brown’s 10-yard pass to Scott Higginbotham in the second quarter. Brown’s two-point run helped Blue Ridge into the lead.

Riverside’s Logan DiBenedetto started at quarterback but was injured early in the game and did not return. He completed 3 of 4 pass attempts for 50 yards. Brown had 138 total yards – 103 yards passing and 35 yards,

Max Louris, who carried 29 times for 131 yards, scored Riverside's first touchdown on a 6-yard run in the first quarter.

The game was advanced one day anticipating stormy weather. It rained most of the day Thursday until about three hours before the game.

Riverside is 1-2 and plays at Christ Church next Friday at 7:30 p.m. Blue Ridge is 1-1 and plays at Liberty next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
