BLUE RIDGE (1-0) at J.L. Mann (1-0)

Kickoff:
7:30 p.m.

LAST WEEK:

Blue Ridge rallied from a 13-point deficit to defeat Wade Hampton in the season opener for both teams. In his first start as a varsity QB, Ty Montgomery completed 17 of 21 passes for 140 yards and ran for another 49 yards on 11 carries, while senior WR Brennen Griffin turned in a clutch punt return and fourth-down carry for a first down as the Tigers scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. . . . J.L. Mann overcame a slow start to shut out Southside 27-0 as both teams opened their respective seasons. . . . Jaterrance Williams starred for the Patriots with 97 yards on 21 yards.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING:

Blue Ridge Team Chaplain Travis Henson on the victory over Wade Hampton: “We had three kids who had started a (varsity) game for us and we were on the road against a 4A school, down 13-0 after the first quarter.”

Tigers head coach Wade Cooper this week’s opponent, J.L. Mann – “To me, they look a lot like us – same kind of offense, the quarterback (Brian Strickland) is very mobile and makes good decisions, they have a couple of big targets for him out there … It’s a very good challenge for us defensively this week. It’s a big challenge on both sides of the ball.”

THE RUNDOWN:

Blue Ridge hits the road for the second-straight week to take on a Class 4A opponent and hopes to have the same sort of success it has had against Wade Hampton for the past two seasons … The Patriots are playing the second of three-straight games against Class 3A foes. They will face Greenville next week. Mann’s defense pitched a shutout against Southside, giving the Patriots four shutouts since the beginning of last season.
