Greer State Bank has had a change in its leadership, effective immediately.
George Burdette, president and CEO of the Greer Bancshares, Inc. and its subsidiary Greer State Bank, has decided to forego the renewal of his employment contract. J. Richard Medlock, has been named interim president and CEO.
Only last Friday Burdette was representing the bank in a $5,000 Greer Bank Foundation presentation to Greer Community Ministries at the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce's First Friday luncheon.
"George and I worked close together and it was kind of a surprise to me," Medlock told GreerToday.com. "Sometime this week George made the decision to move on."
It was unknown if Burdette had a non-compete clause in his contract.
Medlock has been with Greer State Bank since its inception in 1988 and previously served as the bank’s executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Medlock said he wanted to maintain the stability the bank has gained after the recession. "We have made a lot of strides the last few years and we need to be sure to continue to do what we have been doing and serve our customers."
Gary M. Griffin, chairman of the board of directors stated, in the news release, “The directors and staff of Greer State Bank extend our sincere appreciation to George Burdette for his service and contributions over the past three and one half years.
“He came to Greer State Bank during a challenging period of time for banking in general and for Greer State Bank. We wish him the best as he pursues other interests.”
Griffin stated,“Rick Medlock has been a constant strength in our management team since 1988 and has extensive knowledge of the bank’s history, culture, and service commitment to the community.
“We have great confidence in Rick’s ability to provide interim leadership while we carefully consider both internal and external candidates for our CEO leadership position. Given the strength and depth of our management team, we are confident the bank will continue to serve our customers and the greater Greer community with a high level of personal and professional service.”
