An apparent head-on collision between a Greenville County school bus and a pick-up truck sent four Greer students and the driver of the truck to a hospital this morning.
Greer police reported no children were seriously injured and Beth Brotherton, spokesman for Greenville County Schools, said the injuries to the students were non life-threatening. "They were so minor one had a cut lip and the others had bumps and bruises," Brotherton said.
There were 20 students from Greer High School and Greer Middle School on the bus at the time of the crash at Old Woodruff (Hwy. 80) and New Woodruff (Hwy. 101) roads. Two high school and two middle school students were reportedly taken to the hospital.
The students and driver were taken off the bus and moved to a nearby home, according to reports. A second bus took the students to school.
The driver of the truck was entrapped and the Greer Fire Department took more than an hour to extricate him.
The bus reportedly caught fire, and a passerby along with two employees of Top Turf, a nearby business, used fire extinguishers to put out the flames, according to reports.
Brotherton said the bus driver reported that the truck crossed the centerline.
Police reported the call came in at 7:42 a.m.
Greer police reported Highway 101 at Maple Drive would be open about 11 a.m.
