A Campobello man received an 18-year prison sentence Tuesday for sexually abusing a child.

Samuel S. Owens, 46, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act on a minor.

The crimes were reported to the Sheriff’s Office on June 11, 2011. The assaults occurred on multiple occasions over the course of several years.

The victim described the assaults in detail during verbal and written statements collected by deputies. Owens admitted to improperly touching the child after deception was indicated on a Polygraph test.

Owens will serve 80 percent of Circuit Judge Keith Kelly’s prison sentence before he is eligible for release. He will also have his name added to the sex offender registry.

Owens’ prior criminal record included a conviction for criminal domestic violence.
