Chicken of the Sea tuna cans are recalled for metal pieces

About 2,400 cans of Chicken of the Sea brand 12-ounce chunk light tuna in water is being recalled in South Carolina and other Southeastern states because the product may contain metal pieces from a broken piece of equipment used to produce the tuna, posing a possible choking hazard, according to the company.

The product was distributed Dec. 3 - 10, 2014, has the UPC code 0 4800001164 0, product code 9R5BE SCAFB and best by date of 11/5/17. The UPC code (also known as bar code) is found on the side of the can, and the best by date and product code are imprinted on the bottom of the can.

Customers may return the product to the store where they purchased it for a full refund.

Consumers who have questions or concerns about this recall should contact the company’s Consumer Affairs Department toll free at 1-866-600-2680.

Cans were also shipped to stores in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina, the company reported.
