A child’s dream come true playset has been completed at the Greer Family Shelter for its residents of STEP (Shelter To Empower People).

Lowe’s Home Improvement completed the construction late last week and one child had the playground all to himself until two more children arrived with a family Tuesday. STEP is a Daily Bread Ministries initiative.

The playground equipment, one of Lowe's marquee playsets, includes swings, a slide and climbing steps to reach the playhouse and other play areas. The equipment also encourages children to be challenged physically.

“It’s great to work with a company that believes in giving back,” Chris Angel, store manager, said. The Greer store is at 1370 W. Wade Hampton Blvd.

Jessica Linier, Bob Williams, Dave O’Brian and Kevin DeWeese worked on the playset, following meticulous instructions during the assembly.

The shelter, four separate apartments, provides early intervention to enable families and veterans to move from being homeless to employed-with-home. Daily Bread Ministries, which hosts the Greer Soup Kitchen, is managing the shelter.
