Citizens Police Academy spring session taking applications

The Greer Police Department is accepting applications for the spring session of the Citizens Police Academy.

The 10-week program begins Thursday, March 1 at the police department at 102 S. Main Street. Classes are 6:30-8:30 p.m. and designed to give the public working knowledge of the Greer PD. Graduates have also aided the department in public events in support roles.

Applicants must be 18 years old or older and pass a background check.

Topics include patrol procedures (including a ride along), dispatch, detention, community outreach, criminal investigation, gangs, animal control, and K-9 and taser demonstrations.??“ We hope the graduates of the Citizens Police Academy become more aware and better informed about how the police department operates and will encourage friends, coworkers, and family members to join the Greer Police Department in this rewarding program,” Lt. Jim Holcombe said.
