District 5 students can bring electronic devices to school in fall

Byrnes track to get resurfaced, lights approved for 3 fields

Spartanburg District 5 approved a new electronics device policy at its board meeting Monday night that will allow students to bring their own communication devices to school beginning in the fall.

Students will be allowed to bring – cell phones, laptops, tablets – into the classroom for learning purposes.

The board stipulated that students causing disruption in the classroom or other educational setting would be addressed through the school discipline code.

The board also approved $613,900 in the following capital expenditures:

• Byrnes High School track resurface: $170,000

• Freshman Academy field lights: $156,000

• Band practice field lights: $74,000

• Beech Springs field lights: $213,000
