Emelia said she suspected Ella would be a New Year's baby. Ella was born at 8:15 a.m. Jan. 1, one hour after Emelia arrived at Greer Memorial Hospital.
Ella, 6 pounds, 10 ounces and 18-inches long at birth, is the daughter of Larry and Emelia Anne Newton of Gowensville. Ella joins brother, Caleb, 12 months (born Dec. 27 last year) and sister, Jessica, 22.
Emelia said she suspected Ella would be a New Year’s baby. “I told Larry on New Year’s Eve we would have a baby on New Year’s Day," Emelia told GreerToday.com.
Larry disagreed. “I said no way.”
At 5:30 a.m. Emelia told Larry it was time to go to the hospital.
The only drama was Larry’s race to get to Greer in time for a hospital delivery. “I was looking for a deputy or policeman along the way,” he said. Larry said he briefly thought of requesting help from the Gowensville Fire Department, 200 yards from their home but dismissed that, thinking he had time to make the drive.
One hour after arriving at Greer Memorial, the hospital’s lullaby played, signaling the arrival of Ella.
“It’s been an exciting two days,” Larry said.
And what's Larry's plans for Caleb and Ella? "Caleb will be playing football and Ella will be cheering for him as a cheerleader for the Gamecocks," Larry said, with a wide smile.
