The Fab 5 ingredients include 18 oz. peanut butter, breakfast food dry cereal and grits, 1 lb. boxes of pasta (penne, macaroni, etc.), spaghetti sauce and canned fruit.
The food pantry stocks a variety of nonperishable foods that make up the food orders given to families in need in the Greater Greer area. This year’s Fab 5 items are: 18 oz. peanut butter, breakfast food including grits and dry cereal, spaghetti sauce, and boxed pasta.
The campaign begins Monday and a new item will be represented each week.
“We chose these items based on the current needs in our food pantry,” said Kelly Lee, Food Pantry and Sharon’s Closet coordinator. “The Fab 5 campaign makes it easy for people to remember what items to add to their own grocery list. Most of these are staple items that we keep in our own pantries at home.”
A food order consists of five bags of nonperishable food and is available once every six months. The order should feed a family of three or four for three to five days. Larger families receive two or three food orders based on the number of people living in the household.
Donating to Sharon’s Clothing Closet is another way to help the neediest residents in Greer. GCM provides emergency clothing assistance once every six months as well. Lee said that new socks and underwear in all shapes and sizes are needed all year.
Donations are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday at the ministry, 738 S. Line St. Ext., Greer. Call 877-1937 or visit GCM for more information.
