Greenwood man receives 20-year prison sentence for sex assault in 2 Upstate counties

Published on Wednesday, August 7, 2013

A Greenwood man received a 20-year prison sentence today after he admitted to sexually assaulting a child in two Upstate counties.

Brandon H. Eaton, 18, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in Spartanburg before Circuit Judge Roger Couch.

The victim of both assaults was a 5-year-old girl. The crimes were reported to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office July 27, 2011 when the victim’s mother took her to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment of a sexually transmitted disease.

The victim identified Eaton as her attacker and described the assaults in detail during a forensic examination at the Children’s Advocacy Center. The assaults occurred at homes in the Moore community of Spartanburg and the Laurens County, according to the victim.

Eaton admitted to inappropriately touching the victim during a police interview.

“This little girl is living proof that a child who is loved and supported by her family can withstand almost anything,” Assistant Solicitor Susan Reese said.  “Her mother asked the Judge to help give her daughter some peace and I believe he did.”

Eaton will serve 80 percent of the prison sentence before he is eligible for release. He will also have his name added to the Sex Offender Registry.
