Dre Williams and Matthew Huff provided Greer with a powerful 1-2 punch that knocked Pickens out, 35-6, in a first round Class 4A high school football state playoff game at Dooley Field Friday night.
Greer hosts York in the second round of the state playoffs next Friday night at Dooley Field at 7:30 p.m. York eliminated Orangeburg-Wilkinson, 49-24.
Wiliams only carried the ball nine times for 157 yards and two touchdowns – he scored on 18- and 55-yard runs in a four-touchdown Greer first quarter.
Huff scored Greer’s first TD, a 7-yard run, only 2 minutes, 14 seconds into the game. His second TD was an 8-yard run with 1:51 left in the first quarter that culminated a 28-0 Yellow Jackets lead.
Huff also figured in the final Greer score when he hooked up with receiver Jeleel Skinner on a 40-yard pass play for a 35-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets defense saw its shutout bid end with 59 seconds left in the game on a two-yard Pickens run.
