With this announcement, we send the message that Greer is a place where businesses come to grow. There isn't any better example than that of BMW. From a major automobile manufacturer to the two employee coffee shop, our numbers don't lie. Greer offers ample utility capacity, direct access to multiple modes of distribution, a quality of life second to none and a unified leadership focused on economic prosperity. We congratulate BMW on its latest announcement and look forward to years of continued partnership.”
Tommy Stringer
Representative District 18
The positive impact over the next twenty years of BMW's new $1 billion investment cannot be overstated. BMW's highly sought after automobiles reflect the ingenuity of our neighbors here in Greer who work with the best automotive engineers in the world.
BMW's announcement combined with the recently completed Inland Port greatly enhances Greer as a major manufacturing hub, which will continue to attract future business. The citizens of Greer and the Upstate will benefit from increased job opportunities and a higher standard of living.
However, we must not rest on our current success. We must remember that increased funding to technical education and infrastructure twenty years ago played a large role in the construction of the Inland Port and BMW's ability to expand today. If we want to celebrate another major BMW expansion in 2034, we must recommit ourselves to advancing our technical educational system and most importantly, finding new revenue streams to renew our deteriorating road system.

General Manager, Greer Commission of Public Works
“BMW’s additional $1 billion investment is a tremendous boost for Greer and the surrounding area and represents BMW’s confidence in our ability to deliver a world-class work force and support infrastructure. As someone who worked closely with the Toyota Texas Truck plant in San Antonio, Texas, I’ve seen the multiplier impact that an investment like this has on a community. In addition to supplier-created employment, enhanced consumption will create indirect jobs. Other benefits include enhanced civic infrastructure, improved home prices, and momentum for substantial economic development.”
Perry Williams
CPW Commissioner
The announcement of BMW's continued investment in our community is nothing less than phenomenal. Expansion of the assembly plant is a testament of our citizen’s tremendous work ethic and our state and local leaders’ innate ability to work together in order to accomplish more than we can separately.
Thousands of new high-paying jobs will be created and that will improve the quality of life for all of us.
As an automobile enthusiast, I'm also excited about the nuts and bolts of the announcement, namely, the cars.
The newly designed X4 should be a hugely successful addition to the X series of SUV’s. This new vehicle with the six-cylinder engine will launch you from 0 to 62 mph in only 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 153 mph all the while averaging a whopping 47mpg!
The new X7 designed to compete with the Mercedes Benz and Range Rover will finally be a really big SUV that should dominate the US market.
Since the facility will rapidly become the largest BMW assembly plant in the world, just maybe it's time recognize that this plant is completely surrounded by the city limits of Greer and as far away from the city of Spartanburg as you can travel and still remain within the county. Maybe, just maybe it's time call it by its proper name:
The BMW Greer Plant.
