Greer is on the cusp of becoming the largest BMW manufacturing plant in the world when its present expansion is completed by 2016 and plans to make 450,000 vehicles a year.
Sales for Greer-produced BMW X5 SAVs increased 89 percent in June compared to one year ago to help BMW brand vehicles to a second consecutive record month. The X6, although on a smaller scale, tripled its sales last month to 1,448 compared to 567 in 2014 for a 155 percent increase.
BMW brand sales increased 6.5 percent in June for a total of 32,176 vehicles compared to 30,201 sold in June 2014.
“There’s no better follow-up to a record May than a record June with the numbers showing a consistent momentum for BMW as the year reaches the halfway point,” Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America, said.
The 7,508 X5s sold last month nearly doubled the June 2014 total of 3,972.
“It’s clear the U.S. is more in love with light trucks than ever before and the hardest part is supplying the demand,” Willisch said.
Greer is at the cusp of becoming the largest BMW manufacturing plant in the world when its present expansion is completed by 2016 and plans to make 450,000 vehicles a year.
BMW Manufacturing Co. in is the exclusive manufacturing plant for all X5 and X3 SAVs and X6 and X4 Sports Activity Coupes.
