Greer volleyball advances to state playoffs

Sweep of week's matches earns Greer third place in Region II-3A

The Greer volleyball team earned a spot in the state playoffs by defeating Blue Ridge 3-0 tonight.

Greer finished in third place in Region II-3A and plays at Chapin Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the first round of the state playoffs.

The Yellow Jackets sailed past Blue Ridge, recording consecutive wins at 25-19, 25-12 and 29-27.  Coupled with a win over Southside Tuesday night, Greer finished the regular season 10-4 in the region and 15-13 overall.

Greer’s standout players tonight were:

• Caroline Neely 2 aces, 13 kills, 8 digs, 12 assists;

• Julia Sudduth 3 aces, 3 kills, 9 digs, 17 assists;

• Kellyn Taylor 8 kills, 2 blocks, 4 digs;

• Brooke Swafford 8 kills, 12 digs;

• Shelby Garrett 7 kills, 1 block, 9 digs

The win over Southside earlier this week gave Greer a clean sweep of its six games played. Greer coasted past Southside 25-9, 25-9, 25-11.

The leading players in the win over Southside were:

• Neely 1 ace, 11 kills, 1 block, 1 dig, 2 assists;

• Sudduth 9 aces, 21 assists;

• Garrett 1 ace, 3 kills, 4 digs;

• Megan Richardson 4 aces, 5 kills.
