Greer won its first round state volleyball playoff match Thursday, ousting Broome 25-11, 25-14, 25-15.

The Yellow Jackets advance to the second round next Tuesday at 6 p.m. versus the winner of the Chapin-Pickens match at a site to be determined.

Greer lost in the first round last year and coach Traci Farrington said Thursday’s win was a big boost for the team. “They have worked really hard this year to build their confidence as a unit,” Farringon stated. “I think this was very important to them in understanding they are building a foundation for the Greer High School volleyball program.  It meant a lot to them to win this first one.”

Significant performances included:

• Madison Bates, 2 aces, 22 digs

• Zoe Nicholson, 20 assists, 4 kills

• Lauren Jarecki, 1 blocks, 5 kills, 1 assist

• Julia Sudduth, 2 aces, 9 kills, 6 digs

• Kellyn Taylor, 6 kills

• Brooke Wade, 8 digs

• Bailey Estes, 1 ace, 2 kills, 8 assists

• Candace Jensen-4 aces, 6 kills, 1 assist

“We are so proud of the way they played together and everyone contributed to the win,” Farrington stated. “Our setters evenly set the ball to all so everyone had opportunities tonight.  And each hitter took advantage when they got the ball. Our DS and Libero did excellent getting balls up.”

Farrington stated it was a team effort. “They have continued to work hard on the little things and building team unity. Because of this, they have made it so no one player stands out because they give each other equal opportunities to succeed on the court and they encourage each other every play.”
