Greer High School senior Diamon Shiflet signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at the University of South Carolina Upstate Thursday in the school’s Media Center.

“When I visited (USC Upstate), it felt like home,” Shiflet said. “I prayed a lot about it, and I got the answer.”

Shiflet averaged 18.8 points, 5.1 assists, 5 rebounds, 4.7 steals and 1.8 blocks per game as a junior as she led the Yellow Jackets to a 19-6 record and to the second-round of the playoffs.

“It feels great,” Shiflet said. “I have been working for this for a long time.”

Shiflet is picked as the preseason player of the year in Region II-AAAA and listed one of the Top Five players in South Carolina.

Courtney Hawkins, in 2006, is the only other Greer basketball player who signed with Upstate. She was a two-time, all-state player for the Yellow Jackets.
