Heart Walk in Greer was a big success

More than 2,500 walkers participated in the Upstate Heart Walk that began at Greer City Park last Saturday.

Joy Jones, regional office director at the Pelham Road location, said the turnout was more than expected. The heart walk benefits the American Heart Association.

“Greer is a beautiful location and the city officials are so helpful,” Jones, who lives in Greer, said. “The funds raised exceeded our goals. This is a wonderful event in terms of fundraising and the amount of grants we can fund.”

Spartanburg and Greenville previously held the event each spring. The Greer Heart Walk replaced Greenville’s event, historically held at Falls Park. Spartanburg held its event last month.

“An event like this helps us remember why we do what we do,” Jones said.
National Start Walking Day April 6: Lace up your sneakers and take 30 minutes out of your day to get up and walk. Wednesday is designated National Start Walking Day by the American Heart Association.
