The passing of the World War II generation lost another soul when Greer’s Homer Carlisle “Carlie” Campbell died Saturday. Campbell was a United States Army veteran. He was 98.

Campbell was a retired car dealer and farmer. He will be buried with full military honors Tuesday in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.

Campbell’s obituary is here.

The men and women who fought in the great conflict are now in their late 80s and 90s. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reports about 300,000 WWII veterans are alive. There were 16 million Americans who served in WWII.

Of the 350,000 women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the war, about 14,500 are alive today.
