Steven Charles Flaim, 26, pleaded guilty Wednesday to 2 counts of resisting arrest and third-degree assault battery.
On Aug. 7, 2020, 2 officers with the GSP International Airport Police Department attempted to question Flaim in reference to the theft of donuts from Dunkin Donuts. Flaim resisted arrest when officers attempted to take him into custody. Flaim repeatedly punched both of the officers in the face with a closed fist.
Flaim tried to grab a Taser from one of the officer’s belts. An airport employee helped the officers use pepper spray to slow Flaim. Flaim got off the ground and walked to the parking garage with the officers in pursuit.
The officers gave repeated loud verbal commands for Flaim to stop. Flaim refused to comply and started walking toward the officers. One of the officers pulled their duty-issued handgun and ordered Flaim to stop. Flaim was taken into custody without further problems. Both of the involved officers were to taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The involved officers described the impact of the crimes on them during Wednesday’s guilty plea.
Flaim’s criminal history includes convictions for possession of marijuana, theft, possession of a synthetic drug, possession of a narcotic, carrying a handgun with no license, criminal trespass and violation of probation.
Circuit Judge Mark Hayes’ sentence includes a no-contact provision with the victims.
Assistant Solicitor Ben Sawyer prosecuted the case.
