Former South Carolina Representative, Joseph George Mahaffey, Sr. “Joe Mahaffey”, of Greer died Saturday. Mahaffey was 81.

Mahaffey had a successful career in textiles after graduating Clemson University (1964) in Textile Management. 

He was a business entrepreneur who founded M & M Income Tax Service in 1971 in Tennessee, and developed Pic-A-Flick Video with a chain of stores throughout the Carolinas in the early 1980s.

Mahaffey retired from business in 1996 when he sold the tax business and video stores. He raised cattle on the farm where he was born and was elected in 2001 to the South Carolina House of Representatives, where he served for three terms (six years).

Mahaffey was a 1958 graduate of Byrnes High School, the third graduating class of the school.

Mahaffey was a devout Christian and a member of the Washington Baptist Church.

Mahaffey was married 57 years to Alinda Wood Mahaffey and is survived by a daughter Susan Jane Mahaffey; a son, Joseph G. Mahaffey, Jr.; and three grandchildren.
