The Greer Lions Club hosted the Greer High School Fall Sports Student/Athletes at dinners held at the Lake View Steak House the past two Tuesday nights. The football student/athletes were honored Jan. 8 and the fall sports and extracurricular teams were presented awards Tuesday night.

The Lions Club runs the concession stands at both sides of Dooley Field during the football season. It donated $10,000 to the high school with the concessions’ proceeds.

Greer Community Ministries was the recipient of a $6,500 donation Tuesday night with the proceeds of the Lions Club Hot Dog Supper at Big Thursday.

Joel Thornton was honored as a 40-year member of the Greer Lions Club Tuesday night.

Head Football Coach Will Young introduced the players who starred on the field and in the classroom this past season during the Jan. 8 dinner. Greer advanced to the second round of the Class 3A High School State playoffs.

Coaches and Directors of the band and cheerleaders were honored Tuesday night. Jeff Norman, director of the state’s No. 3 band in the state competition, was on hand to honor the representatives of the band from the color guard, winds and drum line. 

Jane Hawkin, coach of the cheerleaders, introduced her representatives of the “Spirit of the G Award”.

Mary Dean, assistant swim coach, Linda Sandusky, head girls tennis coach, Stephanie Howard, assistant volleyball coach and assistant principal Terry Bennett also introduced the student/athletes.

The Lions also honored 2012 Greer High School Homecoming Queen Chelsea Jones. She was selected by her peers during homecoming week to represent the school.

GreerToday.com was the presenting sponsor and Walmart of Greer sponsored the awards.
