Big Thursday brings together traditions that the greater Greer community has grown up on – like Nancy Welch's "Angel Biscuits". The bonus is watching Nancy make the biscuits.
Welch told GreerToday.com she will be baking 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. with her biscuit brigade of volunteers. “I’ve already made 100 dozen biscuits and will make another 100 Thursday,” Welch said.
Traditionally, Welch’s biscuits are sold out before the last dough is rolled, cut out and put into the oven.
This is the 35th year Big Thursday is being held. It’s the biggest fundraiser annually for Greer Community Ministries that provides for Meals on Wheels, Senior Dining, the Food Pantry and Sharon’s Closet.
A barbecue lunch is offered for $8 and a hot dog supper served by the Greer Lions Club is $5.
Admission is $1 or nonperishable food items for the Food Pantry.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with thousands of items at the Book Nook, Christmas corner and handmade crafts section. Ann Helton apple pies and frozen casseroles are also for sale.
Fairview Baptist is at 1300 Locust Hill Road. Call 877-1937 for more information or visit GCM.
