Northwood Little League’s 8-10-year-old team eliminated Florida in the Tournament of State Champions being played in Greenville, N.C., 2-1 in nine innings Tuesday.
Northwood, the South Carolina state champions, plays Virginia, a 24-10 winner over Georgia.
The championship is 11 a.m., Wednesday.
It was sweet revenge for Northwood, defeated 18-4 by Florida in game two.
Northwood scored its game-winning run in the semifinals in the ninth inning.
Florida took a 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run in the first inning. Northwood tied the game in the fourth inning until its ninth inning heroics.
Charlie Marchbanks was the winning pitcher. Teammates Kai Tullos was 2-4 with a double followed by a double by Luke Parker and singles by Peter Mershon, Bryce Harder, Luke Parker, Cooper Noble and Mac Headley.
Northwood beat Ona, West Virginia, 13-3, to reach the semifinals. Marshon had doubles for both of his hits and four runs batted in followed by hits from Noble (double and 2 RBI), Matthew Roberts with two RBIs, Dru Nelson.
Bryce Harder got the pitching victory.
South Carolina players with a hit each were James Kakaras, Mershon, Tullos, Vaughan, and Mathew Roberts.
Northwood won its opening game, defeating Cartersville, Ga., 11-1.
South Carolina scored in every inning highlighted by four second inning runs and five fourth inning runs. Tullos and Harder led Northwood with two hits each and Kakaras Mershon (triple), Luke Parker, Vaughan (double), and Marchbanks (double) also recorded hits.
Nelson Vaughan earned the pitching victory.
