Northwood Blue defeated Tega Cay 10-5 to win the South Carolina Little League Coaches Pitch baseball state championship Monday in Summerville.

Northwood fell behind 0-5 after three innings in the championship game, and then bounced back by scoring two runs in the fourth inning and eight in the fifth, including a fielder's choice and six singles.

“There’s nothing more exciting than seeing a team come back to win that final game after being down 0-5,” Northwood Manager Nathan Headley said. “The boys played as a team and improved week to week. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Northwood was unbeaten, 7-0, in the tournament that featured 12 district champions, defeating Summerville Red, Carolina Forrest, Tega Cay, Wren and Summerville Blue in the semifinals.

The win represents back-to-back State Championships for a Northwood Little League Coaches Pitch team.
