Zach Nunamacher had a memorable 17th birthday at Blue Ridge High School on Thursday. He spent the day with his extended family of about 75 players and coaches at the Tigers’ annual summer football camp.

Players and coaches spend three days and nights together at the school practicing, eating, sleeping and bonding with activities.

Nunamacher, a lineman, said he was caught off guard when a parent wished him a happy birthday as he was walking down the hallway toward the annual photo day session. “I kind of wish they (teammates) didn’t hear it,” Nunamacher said.

No party was planned at the camp but Nunamacher did have one wish for the final night of camp. “I just want to sleep tonight,” he said.

OH MOM! As the players were being positioned for the team photo, a mom observing the event offered this advice to her son: “You better behave.”

THANK GOODNESS FOR MOMS: Lisa Goldsmith and Julie Bull spent as much time at the camp Thursday as the players. While facilitating other parents with organizing the meals during the camp, they were also in the hot sun during the photo shoot providing light refreshments for players battling the heat and humidity.

SPECIAL PHOTO OP: J. P. Clark had no trouble hooking up with his girlfriend, Hanna Seymore, for a personal photo. Seymore is a cheerleader and the varsity and jayvee teams were also having their photos taken at the same time.

BLACK AND WHITE: Varsity players and cheerleaders wore white uniforms and the jayvees wore black.

FRIDAY AM SCRIMMAGE: Blue Ridge will scrimmage Chesnee about 11 a.m. The public is invited.

FCA JAMBOREE: Blue Ridge will be among 10 teams participating in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Jamboree at Wren High School. The Tigers play the last game of the evening versus Hillcrest at approximately 9:30.

The schedule:

5 p.m.: Carolina v. Riverside

6 p.m.: Southside Christian v. Eastside

7 p.m.: St. Joseph's v. Southside

8 p.m.: 2014 Coach of Influence Recognition. Coach Joel Rice, Christ Church Episcopal School (CCES)

8:15 p.m. CCES v. Wade Hampton

9:30 p.m.: Hillcrest v. Blue Ridge
