C.C. Caldwell of Montreat, NC, formerly of Greer, SC, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Hawthorne Inn, Greenville, SC.

He was born in Sharon Township, Mecklenburg County, NC, October 14, 1928, to Mary Edna Galloway and Samuel Bunyan Caldwell. His wife was the late Harriet Pressly Smith Caldwell.

Mr. Caldwell was a graduate of Sharon High School, Presbyterian Junior College, Presbyterian College, Erskine Theological Seminary, and Appalachian State University.

After serving as a Presbyterian minister for a decade, he taught seventh grade in the Greenville County School District for 26 years. He was a charter member of the Palmetto State Teachers' Association.

He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Greer where he served as both elder and deacon, and recently joined the Montreat Presbyterian Church, PCUSA Montreat, NC.

He belonged the Montreat Scottish Society, the Friends of Music at Montreat College, and the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Also, he was a member of the Kerr Clan and the Clan Morrison Society of North America.

As a teacher, Mr. Caldwell accompanied students and parents on study trips throughout the Eastern United States and Europe. As participants in the American Host Program for many years, the Caldwells opened their home; so European teachers could experience daily life in the US.

Among his many other interests were beekeeping, gardening, history, and genealogy. Additionally, Mr. Caldwell built and installed hundreds of bluebird houses, helping to restore this bird in the Carolinas.

Surviving:

Survivors include three children, a son, John (Chris) of Taylors, SC, and two daughters, Jan (Eric) Williams of Greenwood, SC and Beth (Buz) Buzogany of Nebo, NC; five grandchildren, Pressly and Thomas Caldwell, Rebecca (Kayne) Evans, and Sarah and Charlie Buzogany; one brother, Donald Caldwell of Charlotte, NC; and one sister, Mary Ruth Gibson of Charlotte, NC.

He was predeceased by a brother, Morris Caldwell and a sister, Sarah Beamon.

Funeral Services:

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at The Wood Mortuary.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:45 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at The Wood Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Church, Kiev, The Ukraine, in care of MMK, 286 Wilshire Boulevard, Casselberry, Florida 32707, for the care of orphans and widows associated with this church, to First Presbyterian Church, 100 School Street, Greer, SC 29651, or to Montreat Presbyterian Church PCUSA, P.O. Box 577, Montreat, NC 28757.
