Duncan Charles Johnson, 80, of 3 North Street, died July 27, 2015 at his home with his family at his side.

He was a native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Fitzhugh Lee and Minnie Mae Hughes Johnson.

He retired after 35 years in the textile industry with Steel Heddle.

He proudly served his country as SSGT Squad Leader in the US Army as a Paratrooper in the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team (Rakkasans). He received the National Defense Medal for his service in Japan during the Korean War.

Mr. Johnson was a father figure to many during his years, including Debra McGregor, Tony Hemphill and Lewis Hendrix.

He was a Wood Craftsman, active in many sports including waterskiing, boating, bowling and softball. He spent many years mentoring and coaching youth baseball teams in Taylors, SC.

He is a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Taylors, SC.

Surviving:

Survived by the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Evelyn Ward Johnson of the home; two sons, Keith Johnson, (Kristy) and Craig Johnson (Becky) all of Greer; two daughters, Julia Riddle (John) of Taylors and Teresa Hendrix of Maple Grove, MN; one sister, Elizabeth Suttles of Arcadia; nine grandchildren, Jason Johnson, Justin Johnson (Michelle), Joshua Hemphill (Cora), Taylor Johnson, Haley Johnson, Audra Bettinelli (Jerome), Laura Riddle, Nicholas Segars and Kaitlyn Segars; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Johnson, Clara Hemphill, Riley Johnson and Charles Hemphill; two sisters-in-law, Elidia Johnson and Geneva Jones (Roy); one brother-in-law, Carlos Ward (Pat) and his aunt, Grace Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was predeceased by nine brothers, Chalmers, Everett, Edward, James, Harold, Woodrow, John T., Roy, and Thurmond Johnson; two sisters, Eva Revels and Dorothy Howard.

Funeral Services:

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church conducted by the staff of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Elder Phil Beckwith and Elder Rick Barnett and Dr. Tommy Harvey.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Johnson, Justin Johnson, Joshua Hemphill, Taylor Johnson and Nicholas Segars.

The family is at the home.
