John George Deck, Sr., 75, a devoted, loving husband, father and Papa, passed away peacefully October 10, 2013, surrounded by his family for whom he had a great love.

A native of Port Chester, NY, known by his PC friends as "Yosh," he was the son of the late George and Bertha Fus Deck, a PC Senior High 1956 Graduate, a retired employee after 32 years at the Port Chester Post Office and a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

John was offered a full basketball scholarship to Rutgers University, which he turned down to enlist in the US Marine Corps, where he served at Parris Island and Camp LeJeune.

He later served on a six month Mediterranean Cruise. John also excelled in baseball and bowling and he loved to golf. He was a member of the Polish Club and Elks Club of Port Chester, NY.

Surviving:

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Joanne Tomacelli Deck of the home; a daughter, Jodi LaValla and her husband, Richard of Greenville; a son, John G. Deck, Jr. and his wife, Whitney of Simpsonville, and four grandchildren, Amanda and Michael LaValla, Andrew and Todd Deck.

Funeral Services:

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 19th, at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, conducted by Father Christopher Smith. The family will welcome guests immediately following the Funeral Mass at Prince of Peace Croghan Hall and later at his home.

The family would like to thank Drs. John Huggins, Michael Towler, Wayne Hollinger, Tony Messer, Steven Sahn, and Open Arms Hospice nurses and staff, and Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital "Downtown" nurses and staff.
