Queenie Lewis Ray, 88, husband of the late Barbara Alice Hipp Ray, passed away May 3, 2023.

A native of Pickens County, S.C., son of the late Garl Franklin and Lillie Mae Garren Ray, he was a member of Apalache Baptist Church.

Mr. Ray retired from the United States Navy after 21.5 years of service, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, among many other accolades. During his tenure in the military, he was a river patrol boat captain in the Vietnam War, taught gunnery school at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois and served aboard many vessels worldwide.

He graduated from Greenville Technical College with an associate degree in electrical engineering, and later retired from DOW Chemical as an electrician.

Surviving:

Surviving are two sons, Tim Ray of Charlotte, N.C,, and Ricky Ray of Greer, S.C.;
one stepson, Michael Davis of Roebuck, S.C.; three brothers, Jerry Ray (June) of Greenville, S.C,, Tommy Ray (Betty) of Greenville, S.C., and Gary Ray of Travelers Rest, S.C.; three sisters, Martha McKinney (Ed) of Travelers Rest, S.C., Elizabeth Harrelson (H.L.) of Easley, S.C., and Evelyn Burr (Nick) of Easley, S.C.; three grandchildren, Brandon Ray (Laura), Kevin Davis, and Ashley Smalley (David); and four great-grandchildren, Joanna and Jep Ray, and Aiden and Austin Smalley.

Funeral Services:

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2023, at Apalache Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Butch Howard.

Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens with full military honors.

Visitation will be held 1? 2:45 pm Friday May 5, 2023, at Apalache Baptist Church.

Honorary escort will be the Senior Adults of Apalache Baptist Church.

The family is at the home.
