Police still seek person in high school bomb threat
Officers with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested one juvenile Tuesday morning in relation to the written bomb threat discovered at D.R. Hill Middle School on Monday.

A separate bomb threat on Byrnes High School on Friday has not resulted in an arrest as of Wednesday night.

The student has been charged with making a bomb threat and malicious damage to property.

As per District Five’s disciplinary policy, that student will be recommended for expulsion, said a spokesperson.

Two different bomb threats at two schools in District Five referencing two specific dates were reported by district officials to law enforcement Monday.

District Five received word of the bomb threats, written on bathroom walls inside D.R. Hill Middle School and at Byrnes High School.

Both threats gave reference to specific dates – D.R. Hill referenced Tuesday, March 8 and Byrnes High School’s threat was referenced Friday, March 11.

Principals within those buildings contacted district administrators, who notified law enforcement, according to Melissa Robinette, spokesman for the District,

Working in conjunction with local law enforcement and SLED, the district plans to have officers do a full security sweep of both of those campuses. District Five also plans to have extra officers at those schools, and throughout the entire district on those days as an added precaution.

“Our District takes issues like this very seriously, as they not only disrupt school, but threaten the safety of our entire District Five family,” Robinette stated.

“Because of that, District Five will be offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest of the individual or individuals involved in these threats,” Robinette said. “As always, we consider the safety of our students, teachers and staff as our top priority.”
