Greer elementary students have been given a tall task. They have been asked to name the three rubber tiered gantry (RTG) cranes and two empty handlers at the South Carolina Inland Port in Greer.

The winning names will be painted on the cranes.

The South Carolina Port Authority has names for its cranes at its Charleston port. One is named Ichabod Crane for the fictional character in Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”.

The three RTG cranes at the Inland Port are identified as numbers 15, 16 and 17.

Students in grades 3 through 5 attending Buena Vista, Chandler Creek, Crestview, Skyland and Woodland elementary schools are eligible to enter the contest.
