The Riverside boys and girls swept both competitions to easily win the Class 4A state swim championships.
The boys accumulated 433 points, outdistancing runner-up Spartanburg’s 252 points total. The girls recorded 478.5 points to beat J.L. Mann’s 352 points.
The girls set a state record in the final event of the competition – the 400 freestyle relay. Jessi and Ali Snover, Maegan Rudolph and Ariana Schneider set the new standard at 3:30.11.
Riverside teams won both boys relay championships. The 200 freestyle team of Andrew Delahunty, Colin Kemp, Marshall Williams and Matthew Hicks won in a time of 1:28.08. The 400 freestyle team had Delahunty and his brother, Nathan, Jack Frazier and Williams with a time of 3:13.78.
The depth on Riverside’s swim teams proved too overwhelming for other teams to match. The girls had three swimmers earn points in eight events, two of them had 4 swimmers place, and the boys had 5 events with three entries earning points.
Riverside’s boys finished second and the girls were fourth last year.
