Riverside Speech and Debate wins 5th state title in row
Riverside High School’s speech and debate team continued its domination in the state championships, winning its fifth straight title.

All the sweeter was the South Carolina Coaches’ Association State Tournament was held at Riverside High School last week. Riverside was named the Class AAAA state champion.

Riverside prepped for the state competition by winning the sweepstakes award at the Sampson Smith Robertson Invitational last month at Southside High School.

Carol Lee and Gail Holland were Riverside’s captains in the state championship competition.

Riverside’s individual champions and their divisions are:

Peter Botka, Novice Reading

Carol Bubanich, Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate

Audrey Dods, Novice Champion of Congressional Debate

Michael Gallagher, Expository Speaking and Original Oratory

Neil Gramopadhye and Nicole Patterson, Public Forum Debate

Rachel Harrington, Novice Champion of Children’s Literature and Humorous Interpretation

Andrew Kim, Novice Champion of Extemporaneous Speaking

Emma Simonis, Children’s Literature

Will Tapp, Best Presiding Officer in Congressional Debate

Raghed Abdel Tawab, Novice Champion of Impromptu Speaking

Ceylin Ucok, Informative Speaking

Ahva Zadeh, Declamation
