Sunday was designated as Smiley B. Williams Day for Greenville County in honor of the lifelong Greer resident’s 95th birthday. The celebration took place at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Williams is a retired teacher and principal who served at Apalache and Victor schools, along with others, and was also instrumental in beginning the Blue Ridge Water Company as its first director.

Family and friends were present at a birthday celebration honoring Williams.
