Jake Smith's 5-yard touchdown run in overtime helped Blue Ridge beat Berea.

 

Blue Ridge quarterback Jake Smith scored on a 5-yard run in overtime to lead the Tigers to a 30-27 win over Berea Friday in a Region II-AAA game at Berea.

Berea’s Abraham Marion kicked a 29-yard field goal on fourth down in its overtime possession for a 27-24 lead.

Blue Ridge’s 24-3 lead evaporated when Travis Hagood scored on a 67-yard scoring pass from Colby Hagood late in the fourth quarter to tie the game in regulation.

Smith passed for 227 yards and directed first-half drives that ended with Tamaje’ Green’s 41-yard run, Vonta Jenkins’s 11-yard run and Jon Michael Bright’s 28-yard field goal for a 17-3 lead. Smith’s 5-yard run in the third quarter gave Blue Ridge a 24-3 lead.

Berea then started its comeback with two scoring passes and a 5-yard TD run.

Blue Ridge is 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the region. Berea is 2-3 and 0-2.
